Everybody loves music and planning an outdoor music festival is such an exciting process; the music, the atmosphere, the weather, the people. To make sure that your musical event turns out to be a blast, follow the tips below.
#1. Venue
Select a location that has a big open space, enough to accommodate the crowd, stage, backstage area, catering vans, portable bathroom facilities, etc. Make sure that the location is not too close to a residential area otherwise you will disturb the people.
#2. Approval
The last thing you want is for your event to be going on well and it gets interrupted by authorities. Getting the right permit is one of the first things you need to do since you’re doing it on a public space. In some cases a little fee is required for the paper work.
#3. Budget
If you’re having the event at your local community, then you might want to stick to local artist. Inviting an international artist will mean that you have to take charge of their air ticket, logging, and also paying for their performance. This will definitely cost a whole lot. Think about having a mix of unsigned, local talent, up-and-coming bands, with a big name or two thrown in if your budget allows.
#4. Selecting the artist
Selecting the right artists is the most important decision to make. In fact, the wrong artists could ruin your entire event. When making the decision, consider questions such as how much fans the artist or band has, how experienced they are at performing, are they reliable? does their music suit the chosen venue, area and community etc. take your time in picking the artists you don’t want people booing your artists.
#5. Date
Before finalizing on the date, make sure that there is no major event going on. You don’t want to take the risk of competing with another event for attendance.
#6. Market the event
Your job is to make the event worth attending, where people not only come to watch the artists, but also to meet with friends and have a fun evening, drinking and socializing. The event should be in such a way that no one goes away disappointed and regretting buying tickets or just leaving their house.
Make use of all the social media channels available to you such as, Facebook, twitter, instagram etc. Make daily updates about the festival.
Try getting others to help, for instance tell the band to send it to all their fans if they have a fans list, post on their social profiles and website.
Make a lot of posters and fliers and distribute all over town including schools, homes etc.
Also tell your friends and family to spread the word around, word of mouth is a very effective means of advertisement.
#7. Tight security
Since it is an outdoor event, some people will try to sneak in or jump over the fence to enter for free. It is almost a certainty that this will happen so it is important to make sure security at your event is on point and that their are no loopholes!
With the right artists, proper planning and hard work your musical festival will be one for the books!
