#1. Keep quiet

The most important rule of planning a surprise party is: Do not talk about the surprise party. Getting all of the party guests to keep the secret might be very difficult, but not impossible. If you know of anyone that will have a hard time keeping quiet, then it’s best to tell them like a day before.  One of the worst things to do before a surprise party is telling too many people because somehow it will reach to the person you are planning the party for.

#2. Invitation

Sending out surprise invitation cards is a delicate balance of convenience and secrecy. While you need to make sure your guests have adequate warning, don’t send the invitations out too early. Make sure the invitations clearly state the event is a surprise. Make it clear on the invitation cards the time you need guests to arrive.  It is always important to appoint a time much earlier, so that even if someone is late twenty minutes, it won’t ruin the surprise. The last thing you need is to have an invited guest to ruin the surprise by spilling the beans!

#3. Venue

While a restaurant or any other venue is okay for a surprise party, it’s best to be done at home. Things will be much easier to coordinate and setup. However if it’s not going to be at home then be sure to book the place on time. Make sure it’s a place that allows decorations, music and anything else that will be needed for the party.  Remember it has to be in a place where the celebrant will feel comfortable.

#4. Get an accomplice

You will need someone close to the celebrant to distract the suprise on the day while things are being planned. Make sure this person can keep a secret and a straight face. Let your accomplice plan a “fake” activity with the guest of honor. This way there will be more time to set up the house and get things in order. Even if the party is not going to be at home, an accomplice is still need to ensure that the celebrant comes on time to the venue

#5. The reveal

In Most surprise parties, people will stay quiet and hidden until the celebrant hits the door yell SURPRISE! Find out if the Surprise has any health problems. Is there a possibility that he or she will pass out? Different people react to surprises in different ways. One way that can reduce the tension is to have guests walk in on the celebrant instead of the other way round.

#6. Food and drinks

You might want to try a variety of food so there will be something for everyone to enjoy. Also you might want to avoid a lot of alcohol because some people might get drunk and uncontrollable. If your budget allows, get a caterer to take care of this section, otherwise you might as well do it at your home.

#7. Music and games

Games are a fun way to get the party going. Write down a list of games that the celebrant will like and that everyone can participate in. also for the music its best to make a playlist of the celebrants favorite songs.

Enjoy and have fun. Make sure you take a lot of pictures for remembrance.
