Your wedding is one of the most important days of your life and the last thing you want is to leave it in the hands of someone that will ruin it for you. Before you make a final decision on who will help plan your wedding, you need to prepare important questions that you will ask them to know if they are capable or not. Below are some important questions to ask a wedding planner before you hire them.
#1. Do They Work With a Team?
Planning a wedding is a lot of work. Therefore, it’s important to know if your planner works alone or has people to help him. If they work alone, the question is will they be able to handle all of your wedding details? If they have assistants how much of the planning will be delegated to subordinates because some planners take on so much wedding at once and then leave it all with their subordinates to concentrate on others.
#2. How many weddings of my size have you planned?
It’s important to find someone who has experience in planning with your budget and your style of wedding. If you get a planner who only handles six-figure parties and yours is half that, you’re probably not a good match. He/she may have good taste and ideas but may struggle to stay within your budget.
#3. Will they be available on the big day?
The major advantage of hiring a wedding planner is that they will be on hand to handle any emergencies that may come up on the wedding day. However, not all wedding planners will be at the venue on the day of your wedding. Be sure to ask your wedding planner if they will be around to take care of any last minute challenges before you sign the contract. Ask them in detail what time they intend to come and when they will be leaving. A good wedding planner should be on hand throughout the day, helping with arrangements before, during, and after the ceremony. They should also be prepared to handle any post-wedding tasks, like paying vendors, returning rented items, and cleaning up the reception hall
#4. How much do you charge?
Ask how the planner calculates service costs as different planners have different billing arrangements. Some planners it’s a simple flat fee or hourly rate, and for others, it’s calculated as a percentage of your total wedding costs, some even have add-ons for extra tasks they do. Find out if there are payment options, for instance, if it can be paid in installments or if it’s a down payment before the wedding. It is always important to get all the services with their costs in writing to avoid any misunderstandings.
#5. How do you contact clients?
In order to work effectively with your planner, you’ll need to have adequate communication channels. Find out what means of communication you and your planner will be most suitable. Will it be e-mail, phone calls or face to face meetings? Also, find out how often your planner is willing to meet with you before the wedding. Some brides may prefer frequent updates while others want the planner to handle as much as possible without consulting them.
If, after meeting with them and running through your questions, you decide they are a good fit. Then you can go ahead and hire them. Otherwise, you might want to look elsewhere, after all, you do not want to take any chances with your big day now do you?
