Plan on doing a film festival but can’t seem to know how to go about doing one? Worry no more. You have come to the right place.

Organizing a Film Festival is a creative channel to show the world movies that you and your team members have worked on and invested your time, energy and resources to pull off.

#1. Find a name for the festival

Perhaps, the most important thing is getting a name for the film festival and/or theme. The name does not have to be outlandish, in fact, it seems most festivals go by the city or country it is being held. Examples are the Cannes Film Festival held in Southern France and the Toronto Film Festival in Toronto Canada.

#2. Location

Finding the perfect location, one that is in the center of town and easily accessible for everyone can be pretty hard and will cost you a lot of cash; however, it’s all worth it. Book in advance before the festival to be sure you have the theater, hall or room available for the event.

#3. Expenses

Money is essential to do your bidding and take care of other costs for the festival. Draw up a budget to enable you to track your finances and know the amount of cash you will need for your expenditures. If there are any potential customers that you could write to for sponsors and financial aid, go for it. It will only ease the financial burden on you.

#4. Schedule for the film festival

Having a schedule for the attendees to look at is quite vital. They should be well informed about the type of movies that will be showing at the festival- the time, duration and date. For a small scale film festival, you don’t necessarily need to make a schedule; use that time to get other tasks done while you’re at it.

#5. Get the crew members on board

Acquire all the crew members you will need to make the festival a success; assign duties to each of them so they’ll be aware of what is required of them. Your crew members are a necessity and you will need them throughout the whole event.

#6. Advertising

This is one of the most important stages, one that can lead to either the successful turn out of the film festival or the unfortunate part of it which will be very disappointing and disheartening. Display posters about the movie you will be showing and a short summary of what the movies are about. From this point on, the public can know the kind of movies they should be seeing. Create a colorful vibrant poster that can send out the message effectively and simple enough to give the festival a boost. Paste them in places that your targeted audience mostly visit, so as to get their attention.

#7. Décor & set up

On the day of the festival, adorn the entrance with a red carpet, VIP exclusive entrance, as most film festivals and other prestigious events do. Have food and drinks on sale before the movie starts. Get the attendees to rate the movies and reviews after they are done watching them.
