Tea parties have been around for a long time now and they are a great way to just relax and have a nice chat with friends. Unfortunately, they have been given a bad rep in modern times, often perceived as boring and or pretentious. This doesn’t have to be the case, it all depends on the host. Below are some great tips on how to add some edge to your tea party.

How-to-Host-A-Cheap-Tea-Party

#1. Guest list and invitations

One of the first things to do when planning a party is to compose a guest list. You can choose to invite only your colleagues from work, maybe your friends from your neighborhood or all of your friends. Remember the more people you have, the more food, beverages and space you’re going to need. Your guest list will depend on your budget, venue and the type of party you wish to have.

Once the guest list is completed, the invitations should be sent out. This should be done as early as two weeks to give people enough time to clear their schedule. The invitation needs to look as appealing as possible so as to build up the excitement. You can choose to buy fancy ones to save time or make beautiful hand-made ones. Remember to add all the relevant details which includes time date, venue, time etc.

#2. Get tea party supplies

You will need different teapots in order to brew a variety of teas for your guests, cups (not mugs), saucers and spoons. You also need napkins, trays, sugar/honey, milk/cream, lemon and a whole lot more. Remember to get all the supplies you need before the day. To make things easier, make a list of all you need so you don’t forget anything.

#3. Food

Just because it’s called a tea party doesn’t mean only tea should be served. You can consider serving sandwiches, pastries (more sweet than savory) and any other finger foods. If you have time you can cook them yourself, or you could always have them catered so you have more time to focus on other party details.

#4. Decorations

Tea party decorations are quite easy because it all depends on how elegantly you set the tea and food on the table. You may also want to use brightly colored napkins to add some color to your set up. You could also add flowers on the table and finally place your best silver, china, and other tea accessories. Try not to use disposables as they can look very cheap.

#5. Entertainment

The main activity/ entertainment for a tea party is chatting. This is why your guest list needs to be people that can freely flow in a conversation. Play soft, mellow music for a relaxed ambiance. You can also add a few games to make it livelier.

#6. Favors

Everyone appreciates a little gift they can take home no matter how small it is. Make your guests remember your party by giving them beautiful party favors. Some of the most popular tea party favors include tea lights, mini china teacups, tea tins, tea infusers, etc. You could also get creative and make some personalized gifts.

Remember that if your guests don’t know each other, you will have the responsibility of getting them acquainted with one another, otherwise the party will get boring for total strangers.
