Fliers have recently been used in almost every event for publicity. They can be remarkably effective in getting your message out to the public if well done. For your flier to be noticed it needs to have certain features that will distinguish it from others and make it stand out. Below are simple steps that will help your flier grab more attention.
#1. Research
You can start by going to a place you know where flyers are always posted. There must be one that catches your attention more than the rest. Use that one as your sample. Take a good look at it and find out what makes it attractive. Is it the color, the font, the picture, the size? etc. With that in mind, you have an idea on how to make your catchy flier. If you don’t know a place where fliers are posted then you can check online or ask an expert.
#2. Use colored papers
Bright colors like yellow, pink or orange are generally more outstanding than dark ones. They have the ability to catch someone’s attention even from a distance. However, bear in mind that when you use bright colored papers, the texts and images have to be of a darker color so that they can also be visible. This might cost you more compared to the plain paper but it’s totally worth it.
#3. Avoid clutter
Avoid having too many items on your flier as this can make it look chaotic. You might be tempted to put a lot of images and writings on your flier but remember people will only be interested in the relevant details like where the event is, what it is about, time, date, tickets etc. If there are too many things the reader might get confused as to which one to read first. Go in for large and simple font styles that can easily be read. One other major thing to avoid are typos or spelling errors.
#4. Select appropriate pictures
A flier without pictures just doesn’t make much sense. So make your flier more attractive by adding pictures. Sadly, most flier designers tend to insert the wrong picture on the flier. Try as much as possible to ensure that the image befits the event you want to advertise. It could be that your event is an inter-school competition so putting pictures about a wedding might confuse your audience. A good picture on a flier should be able to speak for itself even before reading the text.
#5. Big size
The size of your flier matters especially if it’s going to be in the midst of already-posted fliers. So go in for the largest size you can get. Besides small fliers can easily be ignored or thrown away. Again, this might cost you more compared to the small fliers but it will also be worth it.
When creating your flier, it is important to have your audience at the back of your mind. If it’s for less educated people, you might want to cut down on the big words. Remember simplicity is key but the flier should also be attractive.
