Every groom is expected to give a speech on the big day. Trying to give the perfect speech can cause one to be nervous. One mistake that most grooms make is to make their speech very long and boring. Below are simple points that should be covered in your speech.
#1. Talk about how you and your wife met
This can be the most interesting part of your speech. Talk about how you and your wife met and fell in love. Share the beautiful moments you both shared together. Talk about your first date, and feel free to add any humorous moments as long as it does not get the bride angry or reflect negatively on your wife’s side.
#2. Thank your in laws
Show appreciation to the bride’s entire family for welcoming you into their home and lives. It does not have to be very long. Simply find a few positive sentences to compliment them in raising the beautiful wife you are fortunate enough to marry. Your new bride might not get the opportunity to thank them for all they’ve done for her, so it’s up to you to do it on her behalf. Assure them that you will not let them down in your charge to love and care for their daughter.
#3. Thank your own parents
It is appropriate for you to also say thanks to your parents. Thanks them for all the love and support they gave you financially, emotionally, morally etc. Praise the way they brought you up, but also try and add in a humorous anecdote about an amusing event during your childhood and add important life lessons that they taught you. Try not to be too emotional about it but let them know you really are and will always be grateful. Not only should you appreciate your mum and dad, but your entire family. So if you have brothers and sisters, don’t forget to mention them. They were a big part of making you the man you are.
#4. Thank the best man and brides maids
Thank the best man for his support and hard work during the wedding also thank him for his friendship. Sometimes the bridegroom buys a gift for the best man. So if you did you can give it to him at this point. As for the brides maids, start by telling them how beautiful they look. Praise them for all the effort they put in the wedding.
#5. Thank everyone else
Extend gratitude from you and your wife to everyone present. Make them know you appreciate their presence and that it means a lot.
#6. Talk about your wife
Make eye contact with your wife and tell her how beautiful she looks. Then let everyone know how blessed you feel to have her. Thank her for marrying you. Try speaking briefly about some good qualities that she has. Remember sweet and direct but not too emotional.
The best thing the groom can do is to write it down before the day and if possible practice it. This will get you familiar with it. Remember to add humor, make it short and sweet and avoid getting your wife uncomfortable.
